Two wickets for Watford-born Steve Finn were not enough to prevent England losing their one-day international series to Sri Lanka on Saturday.

A 90-run defeat in the sixth and penultimate ODI in Pallekele saw England surrender the series to their hosts.

Finn, 25, finished with two for 53 after removing Seekkuge Prasanna and Angelo Mathews but Peter Moores’ side faltered with the bat.

A knock of 112 for Kumar Sangakkara steered Sri Lanka towards a total of 292 for seven.

The tourists got off to the worst possible start when captain Alistair Cook fell for one, but a quick-fire 34 from Moeen Ali and 55 from Joe Root threatened a comeback.

However England came up short and were dismissed for 202, with Finn not out on two.

The 6ft 7in medium-pace bowler was not involved as England lost the final ODI by 87 runs in Colombo on Tuesday, with the hosts taking a 5-2 series win.
