Oxhey Jets manager Wayne Gladdy insists the most frustrating part of Saturday's abandonment against Hertford Town was his side's excellent display going to waste.

With Jets 2-0 up in a game which "could not have been going any better", according to player-boss Gladdy, red cards for Jets' Sam Phillips and a Hertford player led to a fracas and subsequently the game was abandoned.

And after strikes from Tim O'Mara and Lee Armitt had put Jets in control, Gladdy was most annoyed by missing out on what he believed to be a guaranteed three points.

He rued: "That is the most frustrating part about it. They were not getting back into the game. We were causing more and more problems for them and we were looking for more of the same in the second half."

The melee which caused the abandonment came about because both players were dismissed and sent in the same direction.

"It is different in the Premier League," explained Gladdy. "If the referee sends off players from either side there are people waiting by the tunnel to keep them apart. That was where the problem came from and it has probably happened at many different teams at grounds at our level."

It is unclear what happened as the two players returned to the clubhouse but Gladdy is adamant that fighting between opposing sets of players was not the cause of the abandonment.

He explained: "There was no incident between the players but the referee decided to call it off anyway. It was more the crowd getting involved and it was not as if the players were all fighting with each other, they were trying to calm it down and get the players back on the pitch."

There has however been previous between Phillips and the Hertford Town player: "The player got Sam a red card at Hertford in the last game by antagonising him," admitted Gladdy.

"There is no blame to put on Sam this time though. The people around the incident said Sam did not react."

Jets host London Colney on Saturday in their final match of 2014.

Kings Langley saw their 11-match winning streak in the Premier Division ended as they lost 3-1 to Tring Athletic on Saturday.

Ollie Hogg handed visitors Tring the lead after just six minutes with a mis-hit shot which deceived goalkeeper Charlie Crowley.

Chris Vardy grabbed a second 20 minutes later, holding off Luke Ladyman and Jack Pattison to steer a shot behind the Kings keeper.

The home side did have chances, though, with Danny Hutchins shooting wide and Daryl Atkins seeing a penalty appeal turned down.

Things went from bad to worse when Dean Hitchcock was sent off for a second yellow card following a robust challenge before half time.

A tactical re-shuffle paid dividends shortly after the break as Mitchell Weiss lashed home after Atkins' effort was blocked.

Atkins and Ladyman came close again as Kings pushed for an equaliser which did not materialise.

With ten minutes remaining the points were sealed when Vardy snatched a second with a deflected effort which struck Callum Adebiyi.

Kings travel to Leverstock Green on Saturday, whilst Tring host Sun Sports.

A Richard Pearce strike saw Sun Sports end their three-match losing streak by beating Colney Heath 1-0 on Saturday.

Sun, who had not been in league action for 11 days, halted their winless run by squeezing past mid-table Colney.

The win leaves Sun three points behind table-toppers Kings Langley having played three games more.

Berkhamsted were unable to close the gap on Kings, losing 1-0 to AFC Dunstable on Saturday.

The game's decisive goal came in the 70th minute when Leon Cashman headed home a free kick for the hosts.

Mick Vipond's side host Holmer Green on Saturday.

Leverstock Green saw their winless run extended to six league game on Saturday as they went down 5-0 at St Margaretsbury.
