West Herts ladies sealed their return to the East Premier Division next season after winning the East Indoor Championships Division One.

In five games at the University of East Anglia, they netted a whopping 49 goals in just five games, conceding only nine to finish as unbeaten champions.

The weekend began with a clinical demolition of Broadland, with West Herts running out 14-0 winners. A last-gasp save from a short corner by Rachel Bennett preserved a 6-5 victory over Bishop’s Stortford in their second match.

Saturday’s final clash saw West Herts romp to another convincing win, crushing Royston 11-1 to set up a winner-takes-all final against Norwich Dragons.

In an exciting end-to-end clash, goalkeeper Bennett was called upon throughout the tie to keep her side in the contest. West Herts eventually prevailed 5-1 to seal the win and promotion.

The ladies Fourths returned to league action on Saturday, picking up a 3-2 win over Harpenden Thirds in their first match of 2015.

Captain Mary Martala opened the scoring by guiding the ball underneath the goalkeeper’s feet after receiving Vicki Vettesse’s pass. A second soon followed when Rachel Aldridge finished off Kate Foster’s cross.

Harpenden did pull one back after the break but the Stags rallied and re-established their two-goal advantage when Sam Rothwell slammed home from Martala’s delivery.

West Herts Fifths also started the new year with a win, overcoming Berkhamsted 3-0 on the road.

Jenny Staines continued her impressive scoring record as she reacted well to pounce on a loose ball and drive home the opener.

The home side pressed hard for an equaliser in the second period but failed to make the most of their dominance of possession; too easily gifting the ball to Herts. Jessica Dawkins was able to slot home Herts’ second before Staines rounded things off with a minute left to play.
