Fullerians maintained their grip on London Three North West by picking up a 25-5 bonus-point win over Finchley on Saturday.

Victory means Fullers boast a seven-point lead over second-placed side Belsize Park after claiming their 11th consecutive win in league and cup.

Fullers kicked off and immediately put Finchley on the back foot, pinning their hosts inside their own 22. The visitors attacked the Finchley line but the home side’s defence held firm to keep their opponents at bay.

It took until the 15th minute for Fullers to strike the opening blow; number eight George Harvey picking up from the base of the scrum five metres out and linking with his scrum-half, enabling wing Ben Meyers to score in the corner.

Finchley were awarded two penalties in quick succession, only for one to go wide and the other to hit the post.

Fullers then extended their lead when Liam Boyd crashed over from short range – his fifth try in as many games – after some strong running from the forwards.

On the half-hour mark Finchley ran well, aided by some missed tackles, but the ball was lost by the home side on the halfway line and outside centre Liam Mann pounced to gain turnover possession, outpacing everyone to score in the corner.

But Finchley rallied and pushed Fullers into their 22. Boyd was sent to the sin bin for pulling the lineout down and Finchley seized the initiative.

The hosts took the lineout, utilising their numerical advantage to crash over for a deserved score just before the break.

The second half saw fly-half Luc Jacobs vary his workload with a lovely chip over the covering defence. Wing Tom Williams used his pace to beat everyone and score in the corner.

Fullers rounded off the win by once again manipulating the Finchley defence to produce the inevitable gaps they wished to exploit.

Quick hands by prop Phil Holby and centre Mann put second row and captain Mike Kerr over in the left corner.

Fullerians head coach Rich Hoskins said of the victory: “We did enough to win the game but could have been more clinical at times. We fell off a few tackles but to get a bonus-point win in these conditions was great.”
