Steve Finn was powerless to prevent England from falling to a 112-run thrashing at the hands of hosts Australia in the final of the tri-series in Perth on Sunday.

Watford-born Finn finished with figures of one for 53 as Australia set an imposing target of 278 for eight, with Glenn Maxwell hitting 95 to top score.

Former Parmiter’s School pupil Finn took the wicket of Mitchell Johnson for three but the hosts were en-route to an imposing total by the time the Middlesex bowler took his 11th wicket of the tournament.

Stuart Broad returned the best figures for England, taking three for 55 from his ten overs.

England made a stuttering start with the bat, losing Ian Bell to Josh Hazlewood for just 18, with James Taylor (4) following soon after to leave them on 35 for two.

Moeen Ali made 26 from 30 deliveries and Joe Root reached 25 from 37 balls before they too were back in the pavilion.

With England faltering on 71 for five, Ravi Bopara (33) and Broad (24) provided brief, futile resistance before Finn (6) was last man out as England were dismissed for a total of 166.
