Tabard recorded their seventh consecutive victory after winning 25-20 at Harpenden in the London Two North West on Saturday.

Tries from Nick Woolley, Cameron O’Connor, Jonny Aguila and ten points from the boot of Jack Reilly sealed the win for Tabs in what was a pulsating encounter.

Both teams were willing to keep the ball in hand and go through phases but it was Tabard who struck first. Winger Rhys Lewis distributed the ball to Woolley, who shrugged off two defenders to put the away side ahead. Stand-off Reilly converted the try.

Harpenden responded immediately through a try from their inside centre. This was also converted to level the scores.

But a beautifully disguised pass from Reilly, and some good work from Joe Calnan allowed Reilly to put Tabard back ahead via a penalty, and he also scored another before half-time.

A try from Aguila just after the break seemed to take the game away from Harpenden. Aguila ducked the first tackle and span through the next before crashing over the line, with Reilly again converting.

With the scores 20-7 in Tabard’s favour, Harpenden had to start attacking and won a penalty shortly after which was struck between the posts.

But Tabard refused to let the home side get back into the game and second row O’Connor powered his way over the line to put further daylight between the sides.

A late rally from Harpenden, which included a converted try and penalty, was not enough despite a yellow card for O’Connor, as Tabard secured the win.
