Oxhey Jets have been absolved of the blame for the abandonment of their Premier Division fixture against Hertford Town at in December.

The Jets were leading 2-0 at home on Saturday, December 21 when Sam Phillips and Hertford’s Leigh Rose were both dismissed.

CCTV footage shown to the Herts FA depicted 11 Hertford players and members of staff leaving the pitch to follow the two players back to the changing room before one Jets player pursued.

As such, the case has been unproven against the Jets, who could now be awarded the match points in accordance with the FA rules.

Following a personal hearing on Thursday, the Jets were cleared of responsibility and player-manager Wayne Gladdy received the news the following day.

He said: “At the time the club was up for a big fine. There were a number of [Hertford] players leaving the pitch, to which a number of our players followed.”

But Gladdy does not expect to receive the points for a game he could not see his side losing. He said: “I believe there is a rule where if you can put the blame solely down to one team, the points can be awarded to the other.

“I don’t see it happening personally. I think we will replay the match. We are gearing up to play them again. I don’t think a decision will be made quickly.”

General manager John Elliott added: “I am very pleased because I was unhappy having that levelled against us. We have now made an appeal to the Herts FA for the points.”

Jets were left frustrated on Tuesday night after coming back from 2-0 down to lose 3-2 to Harefield United.

Jordan Gutteridge and Anton Collins hauled Jets back into the contest only for a speculative cross to beat goalkeeper Will Baker and settle the contest.

On Saturday, Jets overcame Leverstock Green 1-0 thanks to Lee Armitt’s 44th-minute strike.

Gladdy’s side are at home to St Margaretsbury on Saturday.
