Kings Langley Ladies secured their first league for a season and a half after overcoming Welwyn Garden City Ladies 2- in Beds & Herts Women’s Football League Division Three.
Sunday’s victory meant Kings leapfrogged Welwyn in the table and moved into eighth place in the division.
The opening period between the two sides was closely contested. Langley threatened when they attacked and had the better of the first-half chances.
Kim Nield, Danielle McMullan and Nicole Barrett all came close for the home side but couldn’t break the deadlock whilst Abbie Tarsey was forced into a couple of good stops.
The two sides were level at 0-0 at the interval but Kings’ pressure finally paid off in the second period. Rachael Lee netted the two goals after being teed up by McMullan and then Barrett.
Langley came under pressure as the half progressed and wasteful finishing from Welwyn proved their downfall.
The visitors did grab a consolation in stoppage time but it didn’t affect the final result and Kings could celebrate three points.
It is déjà vu this Sunday for Langley as they again face Welwyn. Their away trip will be held at Sherradswood School and kick-off is at 2pm.
