Oxhey Jets have been awarded three points for their abandoned 2-0 Premier Division ‘win’ against Hertford Town in December, with general manager John Elliott delighted and surprised by the decision.

The Jets were leading 2-0 when the game was cut short following red cards for Sam Phillips and Hertford’s Leigh Rose. However, the Herts FA absolved Jets of any blame and Elliott appealed for the three points to be awarded to Jets.

“I am delighted,” he said. “I was absolutely raging to prove our innocence on that. I was not expecting the points because I knew the league would have to show strength to do it.”

He added: “We found out last Friday from another club who said it appeared on AFC Dunstable’s Twitter and that was taken from the league minutes. You would think they would have told us first.”

Jets saw Saturday’s tussle at Hadley called off due to a waterlogged pitch. They host Colney Heath tomorrow (Saturday).

Kings Langley were 5-1 winners against Ampthill Town on Tuesday and their next four matches are at home but joint-boss Paul Hughes says that is not automatically an advantage.

A combination of heavy rain and low temperatures have caused a spate of postponements in the Premier Division since the turn of the year, with pitches suffering as a result.

Asked if a run of home games would be an advantage in the title race, Hughes replied: “Our pitch is a slight problem; it holds water so it is not great to have too many matches played on it in a short space of time.

“So if anything it might be a little bit of a disadvantage to us. We are a little concerned that it could cut up a bit, which would not be ideal.”

Striker Nick Jackson marked his return from injury with a hat-trick on Tuesday, with the first two goals coming inside the first three minutes of the contest. Jackson’s treble means he has 13 league goals in just 16 starts but he is not alone in boasting an excellent strike rate.

There were also efforts from Danny Hutchins and Tom Carter to round off a comprehensive victory.

Hughes commented: “We were really pleased. They started very well and we were three or four up in the first 20 minutes and then we also got a couple of players – including Jacko (Jackson) – back from injury as well, so that was a positive.

“We have never really relied on one scorer. We have four in double figures this season and I think we had eight in double fixtures when we got promoted from Division One last season,” he added.

Kings saw Saturday’s visit to London Colney lost to the weather. They are at home to Hoddesdon Town tomorrow and London Tigers on Tuesday.

Fourth-placed Sun Sports did their bit to keep the title race interesting on Saturday by thrashing Ampthill Town 6-0.

There was a hat-trick for Ashley Lewis, whilst Scott Bonner, Chris McCarthy and Dan Bourne were also on target. Sun had goalkeeper Ross Hampton to thank at 3-0, the stopper keeping out an Ampthill penalty.

Next up for Paul Hobbs’ side is a trip to third-place Harefield United tomorrow.

Berkhamsted played with ten men for 80 minutes at Colney Heath on Tuesday but sealed a 4-3 victory nonetheless.

BJ Christie put Berko ahead before Josh Chamberlain was dismissed for a high challenge. But Mick Vipond’s men netted via Ashley Morrissey and Adiel Mannion to take a 3-1 lead by the break.

Heath came back to drew level at 3-3 but a penalty from Courtney Massay ensured a hard-earned three points for the Comrades.

On Saturday Berko were held to a 2-2 draw by neighbours Tring Athletic.

Efforts from Frankie Jowle and Chamberlain put hosts Berko two goals to the good but Tring halved the deficit through Stewart King before Kieron Turner equalised with an injury-time free kick.

Berkhamsted visit Leverstock Green tomorrow before hosting Hertford Town on Tuesday. For Julian Robinson and Tring, a trip to Holmer Green awaits tomorrow.

Leverstock Green saw their home fixture against Holmer Green postponed on Saturday.
