Fencing Watford and Three Rivers fencers enjoyed great success at the Hertfordshire Senior County Championship, returning with eight medals – the highest of any club from the county in attendance.

The first four medals came from the novice foil categories, with Jonathan White winning gold in the men’s competition after defeating Herts University fencer, Sebastian Lau, in the final 15-10.

Nicholas Masksimovic also won bronze in the same event, having previously being knocked out by White 15-12.

In the women’s novice foil, Krysia Zalewska lost out to Lisa Clews from Herts University in the final, 15-6 to pick up silver. Alfaiya Hashmi picked up bronze after being eliminated by Zalewska 15-9, however, was ranked second after the qualifying round.

Jasmine Porter claimed gold and Amanda Mond took silver after facing off in the final of the women’s senior foil. Mond secured a place in the final after beating a RLS fencer 15-9. Meanwhile, Porter also defeated a RLS fencer 15-5 to secure a final berth.

The finals match between the Watford and Three Rivers duo was intense, both going neck-and-neck at any one stage. However, Porter was able to dig deep and triumphed 15-11 to retain the title she won in 2014.

In the men’s epee category, Oliver Smith was able to secure a final spot by beating a St Albans fencer 15-11. However, he then had to face St Albans’ Pete Eames in the final, narrowly losing out 15-10.

Finally it was the turn of the sabre fencers, with Alice Clark taking bronze after losing out in the semi-final to Lynn Williams of North London Sabre Club, 15-5.
