Little Hay Golf Club’s Texas Scramble competition was won by Ivan Lawrence, Mark Penfold, Trish Joslin and Tom Butler on Saturday.

A score of nett 61 points was enough for the quartet to emerge triumphant.

Texas Scramble sees each member of the team playing his or her own ball. But each succeeding shot is played from the spot of the single best preceding shot.

For example, after all four team members hit their drives, the best of the four drives is selected. The other three players pick up their balls and move them to the spot of the best drive. This process continues until the ball is holed.

The variation in a Texas Scramble is at least four drives of each member of the team must be used during the round.

On Monday, the ladies’ Ovaltine Cup was won by Dawn Rose with 36 points on countback. In second place also with 36 points was Gill Howells and third was Bobbie Barnes with 35 points.

Chris Miles started his term at Little Hay Golf Club on Saturday with his captain’s drive-in. Along with seniors captain Trevor Sargent, juniors captain Robbie McIvor and ladies vice-captain Gill Howells, Miles drove off the first tee in aid of the captain’s charity.
