Bovingdon beat ten-man Meriden Ballers 6-1 on Sunday to boost their hopes of a top-three finish.

The victors' hopes of the title are gone, but they could still finish third and also have the Challenge Cup final on April 26 to look forward to.

Despite fielding only ten players, Meriden took the lead when a mistake from Chris Truman allowed Nathan Gullin to slot home.

That lead didn’t last long though, as Truman soon made amends for his error when his run into the area ended with him being brought down and Matt McMahon slotted home the penalty. Tommy Gray then scored twice before half-time to strengthen his side's position.

The game continued in the same vein after the break, with Truman scoring with a diving header at the back post. Further goals from Michael Buttleman and Josh Jones completed the win.

Hertfordshire Lions, who are in much the same position as Bovingdon in that their title hopes have ended but they still have a cup final appearance to come, suffered a 2-0 defeat by Inter.

Lions dominated the first half, hitting the crossbar and having two efforts scrambled off the line. But Inter, who are a much improved side in the second half of the season, survived this onslaught and took the lead five minutes before the interval when Lions failed to clear a corner and Chris Stead fired home from close range.

Lions had more of the ball and chances in the second period, but conceded a second ten minutes after the restart when they got caught out by a swift counter-attack to allow Dan Kenna to score and register Inter's third league win of the campaign.
