Tabard’s London Two North West campaign ended in defeat as the side were beaten 23-5 by Chiswick on Saturday.

With the result more important to the hosts as they were chasing a play-off spot, it was little surprise Chiswick started the brighter of the two teams.

They broke the deadlock less than ten minutes into the contest when Simon Hallett crashed through three challenges before going over. His attempted conversion, however, only struck the post and bounced out.

Tabard struggled to contain the home side and they were again punished in the 14th minute when Chiswick skipper Luke Vannini broke through from a line-out to touch down. Hallett was again off target with his conversion.

The hosts were rampant and notched their third try soon after when Joe Grindle raced over in the corner.

The wind across the ground meant Hallett could not add the extras.

Tabard began to work their way back in to the game. The visitors did cross the Chiswick line when Liam Kenny squeezed in for a well deserved try and were unfortunate not to add to this before half time as they piled on the pressure.

Chiswick were forced in to conceding penalty after penalty which resulted in a yellow card being shown, but the home side’s defence held up and Tabard turned round with the score 15-5.

Tabard started the second half promisingly but failed to make their man advantage count. Tabs edged the possession and territory but were unable to add to their tally. And Chiswick made them pay as Dan Sutherland crossed and Hallett added the conversion.

Play was halted briefly with a few minutes remaining as the Tabard players applauded retiring captain Cameron O’Connor, who twice led the club to London One North, off the pitch.
