Mitchell Smith returned to Bushey ABC recently with brother and fellow pro fighter Jez to raise money for a two-year-old cancer sufferer.

The 22-year-old super-featherweight held an open training session along with Jez, 21, at Bushey ABC on Sunday, April 12 and raised £1,660 to help Ruby Young, who is suffering from neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer.

Smith, who first became aware of the youngster’s condition via social media, said: “Seeing such a brave young girl touched my heart, especially as my daughter Sienna is two years old herself.

“I just felt I had to do something to try and raise some money to help Ruby’s cause.”

Having roped in his brother, who recently won his first bout since turning professional, the pair – along with trainer Jason Rowland – put on an open training session at their former club which was attended by more than 100 people.

And Smith was delighted with the turnout: “It was a fantastic event and it is overwhelming to see so many friends and supporters take time out of their weekends to come along and donate so much money.”

Barclays Bank in Chelsea matched the funds raised by the brothers to reach their grand total.
