Kings Langley Cricket Club will mark the first anniversary of the passing of former bowler Dave Percy with the inaugural Dave Percy memorial match.

On May 3, 2014, aged just 50, Percy suddenly collapsed and died in a match against Rickmansworth.

Kings promised at his funeral they would remember him with an annual memorial match to be played on May Day Bank Holiday.

A Dave Percy XI will face a Local Club XI, comprised of players from Abbots Langley, Langleybury, Hemel Hempstead Town, Chorleywood and Rickmansworth at The Common on Monday from 12pm, with all profits being donated to the British Heart Foundation.

Close friend Kevin Rolfe said: “It is important to the club and his family to remember Dave. The great thing is the local clubs have embraced it. It is very much a celebration of Dave’s life as opposed to a sad occasion.”

He added: “Even though it’s a 40 overs match we are hyping it up like a Twenty20 day and we have got the Edgbaston T20 Blast playlist so there will be blasts of music between overs and wickets and we have got a member doing a commentary too.”

Food and drink will be available throughout the day, which is expected to run until late.
