Abbots Langley beat St Albans West Indians by 79 runs thanks to a hat-trick from Nick Gurney.

Having won the toss, visiting Abbots elected to bat but struggled to build any momentum before Chris Chellew (13) and Matt Parkins (38) put on a 34-run partnership before the latter was caught.

Peter Metcalfe chipped in with 28 before captain Barry Warner (33) and Gurney (21) came to the crease to ease Abbots to 147 for nine.

And the away side had St Albans on the rack before Gurney completed a hat-trick and recorded a maiden to reduce the hosts to 68 all out.

On Sunday Abbots could only draw in a hotly-contested encounter with St John’s Wood.

Jack Read (35) and Metcalfe (107) put on 99 before the former fell to a easy catch. However, Abbots still reached a total of 270 for three.

St John’s reply totalled 208 for three, with Mehta taking two for 22.

Watford Town Seconds won under the Duckworth Lewis method against Indian Gymkhana.

Winning the toss, Watford skipper Gunjan Hazarika decided to bat first. Opener Chirantan Hazarika (75) and Gunjan Hazarika (186) took charge as Watford reached 345 in 45 overs.

Indian Gymkhana regularly lost wickets and managed 125 for six, with Sajjad Shwal finishing on two for 12 and Mo Sayed on two for 14 as Gymkhana stayed way below the required rate.

Hemel Hempstead Town cruised to an 86-run friendly victory over Langleybury on Saturday.

Brett Penny (71) continued last season’s good run-scoring form after Hemel won the toss and 33 from Jack Doodson kept things moving.

Having reached 185 all out, Hemel made light work of Langleybury, who were removed for 99 largely thanks to Parth Mehta’s two for 0.

Hemel Hempstead Town Seconds overcame Hawridge & Cholesbury in a friendly with ease on Sunday, winning by 120 runs.

Despite a sticky start which saw Hemel at 27 for five after 14 overs, Ed Langley (70) soon steadied the ship along with Dave Jenkins (29). Billy May (32 not out) and Charlie Hoskins (16 not out) then helped nudge Hemel up to 194 for seven.

The bowlers then tore into Hawridge with venom. Hoskins returned figure of three for six from five overs before Liam Jahn swept up the Hawridge tail with three for 16.
