West Herts Hockey Club’s Dan Webster has been selected in the England Hockey East Conference Team of the Year after finishing as the league’s second-highest scorer.

Twenty-four goals by Webster – including 13 short corner strikes – helped fire the Stags to a fifth-place finish in their first season in the National League.

At the weekend, Webster will lead the Hertfordshire side, featuring West Herts players Peter Corbridge, Iain Gordon, Simon Walker and Mark D’Cruz, in the County Championships in Sheffield.

There has also been belated good news for the Ladies’ Fifths, who have won promotion after their final fixture of the season did not go ahead, denying them the opportunity to close the goal difference gap on Rickmansworth, the side above them in second.

West Herts will be hosting ‘Back to Hockey’ sessions in partnership with England Hockey over the summer, starting on Tuesday, May 12 and running until June 9.

The sessions take place from 8pm to 9pm at the New Field, Coningesby Drive, Watford.
