Garston Bowls Club's Bradley Coles has been selected to represent England at the Commonwealth Youth Games later this year.

The Games take place between September 5 and 12 and the 18-year-old will take part in a singles event as well as pairing up with Northamptonshire’s Chloe Wordingham for the mixed pairs.

Three-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Ellen Falkner was charged with leading the assessment process on behalf of Bowls England and will accompany the players to the Games.

She said: “The Commonwealth Youth Games has previously proven to be a tremendous experience for junior bowlers on their journey to elite participation. We are confident that both Bradley and Chloe will benefit greatly from their selection and will be tremendous ambassadors for our sport.

“It was incredibly difficult to narrow the final choice down to two as all of those shortlisted conducted themselves impeccably both on and off the green and it was a privilege to work with them all.

“I am sure that the future of bowls in England will be in safe hands for many years to come and would expect that the majority of those who took part in the selection process will go on to represent Bowls England in the not too distant future.”

Lawn bowls was last included at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2003.
