Watford Water Polo Club picked up three wins from three over the weekend, helping maintain their 100 per cent record in the Hertfordshire League Division One.

The first of those Division One successes came on Sunday as Watford beat Northampton 20-8 at Woodside.

It was an even start but the goals rained in and it was 3-3 by the end of the first period.

However, Watford stepped up a gear in the second and ran in five goals without reply to open up an 8-5 lead.

Into the third period and Watford continued to run rampage, with an Andy Holt hat-trick and Luke Rodgers’ double helping to stretch the score to 14-6 in the hosts’ favour.

Northampton were running out of steam by the fourth quarter and Watford were able to score another six, leaving the final score 20-8.

Young Watford goalkeeper Ricky Eatough saved two penalties, whilst Luke Rodgers, Hamish Hudson and Holt each scored four goals.

It was a far tighter affair on Monday as Watford eked out a 6-5 win at Hatfield to build on Sunday’s triumph.

The game began with Watford on the front foot but despite taking an early lead, Peter Pickford was forced to make a number of smart saves to prevent Hatfield from levelling the scores.

Watford weathered the storm and scored twice more to take a 3-0 lead into the second quarter.

But in the third Watford wasted some good chances and Hatfield scored three of their own to level the scores.

There was nothing between the teams in the third quarter and each scored twice, but the final period saw Jarryd Myburgh send a low shot into the bottom corner to win the game for Watford.

In the Premier Division on Saturday, a convincing 16-6 win over Ealing saw Watford leapfrog Croydon to return to the summit.

Andy Holt helped himself to six and Jack Pickford struck a spectacular goal from halfway.
