Garston Ladies Under-10 Mets went all the way to the semi-finals of the FA’s National Futsal competition in Birmingham on Saturday only to suffer the heartbreak of defeat in a penalty shootout.
The group stages saw the girls lose in their opening game against AFC Leicester but managed to turn things around in the next fixture against Boldon and went into their final group tie against Melksham knowing a win would see them through to the knockout stages.
Going 2-0 down in the first half was not quite in the script but again they dug deep and managed to net three times after the break to secure Garston’s progress.
The New Saints were Garston’s opponents in the semi-finals and despite going behind twice, Garston stuck to their task and the game finished 2-2, meaning penalties were required.
