Just like the team he supports Reece Bellotti’s star is rising. But the Watford-born boxer remains grounded even after earning rave reviews from promoter Eddie Hearn following his second victory.

The South Oxhey featherweight, 24, picked up his second professional win on Saturday night with a second-round stoppage against Aron Szilagyi (3-7-1) at York Hall.

There is plenty of hype surrounding the latest boxer to come out of Watford – not least of which from Matchroom Sport’s Hearn – but ‘Bomber’ Bellotti is quick to dampen talk of any achievements, instead preferring to focus on his own development.

Speaking after watching Bellotti twice knock down Hungarian Szilagyi, Hearn enthused: “I knew this kid had something extra. That’s two exciting, explosive performances from Bellotti. He’s earnt the big stage.

“I will now feature him at the O2 Arena on September 12 and I can’t wait to see if he can light up a major venue the way he’s electrified York Hall. Just maybe Watford has a Premier League football team and a new premier fighter.

“Reece is so exciting. He carries devastating power in both hands and has a perfect style for the paid ranks. I expect Reece to excel in the pro game.”

Asked about Hearn’s glowing endorsement, Bellotti said: “He has been around the block a few times and seen some good fighters so if he is raving about me then that must be a good thing.”

Bellotti’s debut at the end of May was explosive, with a first-round knock-out win against Joe Beeden arriving after just 50 seconds.

This time it took two rounds but Bellotti sees that as a positive. “It gave me a little bit more time to get into my zone,” he reasoned. “He went down right at the end of the first round and got saved by the bell but that was good because I was trying a few things and like everything, it is a learning curve.

“It went really well but I did not expect to get out of there in two rounds,” Bellotti laughed. “I was glad it went the way it went, but I do not ever expect to blast anyone out like that – I always prepare to go the distance.”

He continued: “He was different to what I was expecting; throwing shots from difficult angles and I was not expecting him to come out as much as he did but he comes from an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) background so it will do me good to face different styles.”

Attention now turns to that date at the O2 on a card which is expected to include fellow Watford export Anthony Joshua.

“I will try and not think about it for now and I will deal with it nearer the time instead,” said Bellotti. “I will try not to over-think it but if I am part of a big card at a big venue then I am even more likely to want to put on a show.”
