Watford middleweight Elliott Matthews faces Gary Boulden in a Southern-Area title rematch this on Saturday and insists he has learnt a lot since the two last met.

He was scheduled to box Chris Rackley but that has fallen through and Boulden steps in.

Matthews won the Southern Area belt with a gruelling ten-round points victory over Boulden in September 2013.

He said: "I've improved a lot since then. I expect to be a lot neater and outclass him. He will have improved as well and will want that title back, but I have been working hard and improving my boxing in all areas. This fight gives me the chance to see how much better I've got in the last couple of years."

Matthews has been out of the ring since a six-round points win over Konstantin Alexandrov in February.

He's switched camps since that fight and is now training with Barry Smith at the Limehouse Marina Gym.

Matthews explained: "It's a better set-up and I get better sparring there.

"There are always good quality fighters around for sparring. I'm getting a good variety of quality sparring there that I wasn't getting where I used to train.

"It's definitely a step forward and I think I will notice the difference when I fight next month."

Matthews has also brought in a nutritionist and strength and conditioning coach.

He said: "There's a chance I could fight for the British title soon, so I have to do things properly now. I have to be 100 per cent in every fight."

Nick Blackwell claimed the vacant British title last month with a come-from-behind seven-round stoppage of John Ryder - and is rumoured to be making his first defence against Jamie Cox.

Matthews could be in line to face the winner if he beats Rackley next month.

The 33 year-old from Slough has just one defeat on his six-fight record and Matthews plans to beat him comprehensively over ten rounds.

He said: "With the quality training I've been doing, I can't see me losing a round. I really want to make an impression and show I'm ready for a big fight.

"I would fight Nick Blackwell tomorrow. I've just got to keep winning and wait for the opportunity to come along."
