Kings Langley came from behind to overcome Egham Town 2-1 and make it two Southern League wins in four days last night to move up to seventh in Division One Central.

Kings, who recorded a 3-2 victory at Chalfont St Peter on Saturday, made the worst possible start at Gaywood Park against Egham after a through ball found striker Brendan Matthew, who slotted past goalkeeper Rob Partington on debut.

However, just like at the weekend, Langley showed the same grit and perseverance which saw them respond from a goal down to run out eventual winners.

Kings piled on the pressure, following the early setback, with Town goalkeeper Jamie Norris having to be on his guard to keep out two efforts from David Femiola, as well as a close-range shot from forward Mitchell Weiss.

However, the resilience that Norris showed in the first period was undone soon after the restart when Weiss latched onto a loose ball after Gary Connolly’s effort was blocked. Weiss added to his tally after netting the second goal for Kings against Chalfont at the weekend.

The equaliser put Kings very much in control of the match and they took the lead in the 65th minute, with Weiss this time turning provider, as his low cross was met Alex Campana, who converted into the far corner of the net.

Last night’s victory followed on from an entertaining 3-2 win over Chalfont St Peter, in which Kings secured the win courtesy of a stunning 65-yard free-kick from Danny May, who took an audacious punt on goal after spotting Saints keeper Brendan Hazlett off his line to spectacularly gain all three points.

However, it was not all spectacular for Kings. Saints full-back Alex Paine gave the home side the lead after 18 minutes, after some fine build-up play from a free-kick. But Kings hit back just before the interval, with Danny Hutchins converting a penalty after Hazlett had brought down Campana in the area.

Kings picked up where they left off in the second half, with Weiss scoring his first goal of the season, having latched onto a loose ball headed out by the Chalfont keeper to place his effort into the back of the next through a number of bodies.

After Kings had added to their lead in the 80th minute through May’s superb strike, Saints did not give up hope of finding an unlikely way back into the game and reduced the deficit to a single goal after Victor Osubu’s strike in the 88th minute had made it 3-2.

Osubu’s finish turned out to be a consolation in the end after the same player wasted an opportunity in the closing stages, enabling Kings to get their first win on the board after their promotion to the Southern League Division One Central last term.
