Oxhey Jets manager Wayne Gladdy revealed he could not bring himself to shake the hands of AFC Kempston Rovers’ management team after they attempted to justify their controversial FA Cup winner on Tuesday.

With Jets leading the United Counties League Premier Division side 2-0 away from home, goalkeeper Will Baker threw the ball out of play to allow striker Tim O’Mara to receive treatment.

However, the forward got back to his feet as the ball went out and declined treatment. So far nothing untoward.

But with Jets expecting the ball to be returned to Baker, Kempston’s Jason Turner tucked home uncontested from the throw-on to halve the deficit.

From there Turner and Alex Stoyles turned the game on its head in the second half and the Bedfordshire side advanced to the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

Gladdy said: “We were not pleased to say the least and it changed the game.

"We lost our focus at half time because we were aggrieved by what happened.

“They tried to justify what had gone on and I had no dialogue with them and afterwards I could not shake hands. It is a sign of respect but I have no respect for them.

“It is the old cliché but goals do change games. From 2-0 down they had something to chase.

"It changed my team’s attitude and our focus shifted to how hard done by we were.”

Doncaster Rovers and Bury found themselves in a similar situation on the opening day of the season after former Watford midfielder Harry Forrester accidentally lobbed Shakers stopper Christian Walton when attempting to return the ball.

Rovers boss Paul Dickov allowed Bury’s Leon Clarke to walk through and level but the same sportsmanship was not on show up the M1.

Gladdy refused to chastise the referee for the incident though, and said: “The referee had no say in the matter, you can’t blame the referee.

"The blame lies fully with AFC Kempston; their players mainly and their management for trying to justify it.”

Saturday’s initial contest between the two had ended goalless, forcing Tuesday’s replay in which O’Mara and Luke Beardsworth had given visiting Jets a 2-0 lead.

Jets host Tring Athletic tomorrow (Saturday) and entertain London Colney on Tuesday.

Sun Sports put the disappointment of defeat in the club’s first FA Cup foray on Saturday behind them with a ruthless 5-1 win over Broxbourne Borough on Tuesday.

There were no signs of a hangover from the 2-1 defeat by Northampton Sileby Rangers in the FA Cup extra preliminary round as Paul Hobbs’ side continued their fine start to the new league campaign.

Dom David banished any lingering thoughts of their cup exit after just four minutes at Bellmount Wood Avenue before Karl Penny struck twice to give the home side a commanding 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes.

Jack Johnson added a fourth in the 37th minute and Nathan Pooley completed the scoring 11 minutes after the restart to push Sun up to fifth place in the table.

Saturday had seen Sun take a break from their league schedule to compete in the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

But Sileby were 1-0 up from the penalty spot after three minutes and bagged a second in the sixth minute before Reon Thomas snatched a late consolation.

Sun host Holmer Green tomorrow (Saturday) before going to Stotfold on Tuesday.

Berkhamsted claimed their third consecutive league win on Tuesday by taking away Cockfosters’ 100 per cent record with a 3-0 victory.

Aaron Nash-Barker opened the scoring after ten minutes before James Baldry headed home the second from a corner after half-an-hour.

The points were made safe when Jude Eboji nodded home a Lewis Rodrigoe free-kick.

On Saturday the Comrades edged out Hanworth Villa by the odd goal in five in the FA Cup.

Eboji levelled after the Villans had taken the lead before Nash-Barker fired Mick Vipond’s men in front for the first time before the break. Baldry then marked his birthday with a header to make it 3-1 before the visitors got a second to set up a nervy finish.

Berkhamsted host St Margaretsbury tomorrow and Holmer Green on Tuesday.

Tring Athletic kept up their perfect start to the new season with a 1-0 win over St Margaretsbury on Tuesday.

Chris Vardy won and converted a second-half penalty to give Julian Robinson’s side another three-point haul.

Athletic edged out rivals Leverstock Green 2-1 in the FA Cup in the Dacorum derby on Saturday.

Vardy put Tring in front before Sam Joliffe headed home seconds before the break to double their advantage.

Levy fought back in the second half though, but Chris Blunden’s strike was not enough to prevent Tring’s progress.

Tring go to Hadley on Wednesday whilst Leverstock Green hosts Harefield United tomorrow and travel to Broxbourne Borough on Tuesday.
