Watford’s Steven Finn has been selected in England’s one-day squad for their upcoming ODI and Twenty20 fixtures against Australia.

The 26-year-old former Parmiter’s School Pupil took three for 90 as England lost to Australia at The Oval in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes, claiming his 100th wicket in Test cricket by removing Mitchell Marsh in the first innings.

But Finn still played a key part in England’s 3-2 victory to regain the urn after ending his two-year Test exile with a stunning return of eight wickets at Edgbaston in the third test.

The former Langleybury player is named in both squads with Joe Root rested following his starring role in England’s Ashes triumph.

England face Australia in Cardiff on August 31 in a T20 before five One-Day Internationals at the Rose Bowl (September 3), Lord’s (Saturday 5), Old Trafford (September 8), Headingly (September 11) and Old Trafford (September 13) again.

Moeen Ali is recalled whilst Chris Woakes returns after injury. There is no place for James Anderson and Stuart Broad, both of whom have been left out of the one-day sides since before the World Cup.

Jonny Bairstow, despite his unbeaten 83 against New Zealand earlier this year, is also left out.

National selector James Whitaker said: "We have made some significant progress in our limited-overs cricket this summer and the next six games allow these players to continue testing themselves against one of the very best sides in the world.

"This is primarily a young group of players and the next three weeks will provide them with valuable experience as we continue to identify players who can take our limited overs cricket forward over the next four years."
