Kings Langley never recovered from falling behind after just 16 seconds as they were beaten 2-1 by basement boys Arlesey Town in Division One Central of the Southern League on Saturday.

The unmarked Christian Tavernier lashed home from wide right with a mere 16 seconds on the clock to leave Ritchie Hanlon and Paul Hughes’ side facing an uphill struggle.

Following the transfer of Danny May to Royston Town, Kings gave debuts to new signings Wilfred Gnahore and Alan Musoke, the latter after Mitchell Weiss failed a fitness test.

Along with their new colleagues, both struggled to make an impact and chances were non-existent as visitors Arlesey defended their lead.

And in the only other clear chance of the first half, Callum Adebiyi was called upon to make a saving tackle on Jack Vasey.

The home side finally raised their game in the second period, but still possession was surrendered cheaply and neither keeper was tested.

When Weiss was pitched into the fray with 15 minutes to go the decision had a hint of desperation about it. But the gamble initially seemed to have got Kings out of jail.

With the Arlesey goal finally under concentrated pressure, the striker turned on a sixpence and fired a goal bound shot that was blocked and Gary Connolly steered in the rebound from close range.

But Town were not to be denied their first win and their renewed efforts meant Kings keeper Ant Ladyman was forced to pull off two superb saves.

Unfortunately, the second was only tipped onto a post and fell to Louis Lee, who was presented with the simplest of chances from two yards.
