Last season’s beaten finalists Hertfordshire Lions suffered a 4-2 defeat to Nascot Arms, who bounced back from their first defeat the previous week in the opening group game.

The match was won in part due to the powerful start from Nascot. They went ahead after ten minutes when Nathan Pooley crossed for Joe Manfredini to head in. The lead was doubled ten minutes later when the same two combined, this time allowing Manfredini to race through to score.

Lions pulled a goal back when Louis McNamara scored following a goalmouth scramble, but the two-goal advantage was soon restored as Dan Bourne lobbed the ball into the net following a defensive mix-up.

Lions improved in the second half and pulled another back thanks to a McNamara penalty, but the game was put beyond them when Bourne completed his brace 20 minutes from time following a swift Nascot counter-attack.

Holders Old Danes Athletic swept Bedmond aside 9-1.

Chris White scored four, with two each from Colin Spooner and Adam Cadmore and a single from Jordan Woodcock. Harley Mead notched the sole Bedmond reply.

AFC Bovingdon have finally got their season up and running with a 3-1 win over Prince George.

Prince George took an early lead, but their opponents struck back with goals from Martin Tebbs and Tommy Gray just before the half-time break.

Prince George had the better of the second period but found Bovingdon keeper Luke Furlong in inspired form as he produced several good saves to keep his team ahead.

Despite being on the front foot for most of the second half, Prince George paid the price for the missed chances when Tommy Gray completed the scoring.

The renamed Phoenix United finally got their campaign underway after a chaotic pre-season with a change in name and team management, but they suffered a 6-1 home defeat to Oxhey Hall Stars.

Will Keddy scored for Phoenix, with the Oxhey goals coming from a George Brockwitz hat-trick and singles from Darren Insley, Paul Kenwright and Dave Smith.

Both games in this group turned out to be seven-goal thrillers.

Meriden’s winning start to the season was ended by Batchworth, whose first game had seen them beaten 9-0.

This was a far better performance from Batchworth as they battled back from an early Lewis Gordon goal to race into a 4-1 lead thanks to a hat-trick from Cameron Murray and one from Chris Woods.

Meriden rallied late on through Jay Jarvis and a Dean Ward penalty, but their opponents held on for the 4-3 win.

South Oxhey Labour Reserves bounced back from their 9-0 defeat seven days previously with victory over Dome Bar but they had to do it the hard way, coming back from 2-0 down.

Darren Hartland scored twice for Dome early on before Matt Westwood pulled a goal back just before the break.

Westwood levelled the scores with his second of the game after the interval before Bradley Brunt put them ahead for the first time in the contest. But Dome soon levelled thanks to a Hartland penalty to complete his hat-trick.

However, the game had one last twist when in the final minute Jordan Aston-Woods raced through to score the winner.

Last season’s beaten finalists Watford Labour Club suffered a 4-3 home defeat to the much-improved Roundbush, having led the contest three times.

John Barker put Labour ahead after just six minutes but Dan Nott equalised nine minutes later. Robert Linsley restored the Labour lead with a long-range lob after 23 minutes, but Nott scored his second of the game just five minutes later to level once again.

Peter Hurwood headed Labour ahead for a third time six minutes into the second half, and they missed several good chances to put the game beyond Bush.

But after spending most of the second period defending, a rare foray into the Labour half allowed player-manager Graham Jackson, who was on as substitute, to score his team’s third equaliser. Then on the final whistle David Flannery netted a fine solo goal to win the game for the visitors.

Inter rang the changes in their starting XI but it backfired as they suffered a 3-1 defeat by Green Machine.

Phil Dearman scored the first just minutes into his debut, and a second for Green Machine followed through Joe Boggins.

Inter pulled a goal before half-time through Ryan Roedling but the home completed the win in the second half through Charlie Cox.
