There were mixed fortunes for Herts Senior County League teams from the Watford area in the opening round of the Anagram Records Trophy on Saturday with three progressing and four falling at the first hurdle.

The three to advance were all victorious on the road with a Darren Turner brace firing Premier Division champions Belstone to a 2-1 win at Manford Way while Bushey Sports Club edged their all-County League tie at Evergreen 4-3. Gavin Chatterpaul (2), Liam Sonner and Gabriel Asare-Bercoe netted for the victors with David Spencer (2) and Luke Jones on target for Evergreen.

Old Parmiterians have been struggling in the top flight but they won 5-3 at Sporting Hackney thanks to a D. Stewart brace and further goals from Ben Poulton, Josh Towle and C. O’Connor.

Efforts from Adrian Abramian and A. Rogers were not enough to save Chipperfield Corinthians from a 4-2 exit at Cuffley while Sarratt and Bovingdon were also beaten on their travels, 6-0 and 5-0 at Letchworth Garden City Eagles and Hadley Wood & Wingate respectively.

In Division One, Croxley Green were beaten 4-0 at home by Hertford Town Under-21 while high-flying Bedmond Sports and Social Club’s trip to Bengeo Trinity was postponed as some of the former table-topper’s players were unable to get to the game because of the knock-on effects of a road accident.
