Kings Langley joint-boss Paul Hughes hopes his players can take out the disappointment of their abandonment against Rushden & Diamonds when they return to league action against Aylesbury United on Saturday.

The Southern League Division One Central new-boys didn’t have a fixture on Saturday and have therefore not played since their home game against Rushden on September 29, which was abandoned in injury time following a controversial equaliser.

Saturday sees Kings host struggling Aylesbury United and after an enforced pause, Hughes is hoping for a reaction at Gaywood Park this weekend.

He said: “We felt very frustrated after the Rushden & Diamonds game about the way they behaved and it would have been nicer to have a game last weekend for the lads to get that frustration out.

“Maybe we will take the frustration out on Saturday. We’re looking forward to the game and we would like to see a reaction from the boys.”

He continued: “We would have preferred to play last weekend but you can use these things to your advantage and it has given everyone a weekend at home with their wives, girlfriends and kids. So these things can be good for morale too.”

Saturday’s opponents Aylesbury have been a model of inconsistency this season, picking up wins over Northwood and Potters Bar Town, drawing with Hanwell Town and also suffering heavy defeats to Bedford Town and Chalfont St Peter.

Currently 19th after ten games and just two points above the relegation zone, the Ducks have seen manager Tony Joyce step down after six years in charge.

And former Chelsea midfielder Hughes knows Kings will need to be wary when they come up against the Buckinghamshire side.

“It’s never going to be an easy game,” said Hughes. “They’ve just lost their manager and you never know quite what you’re going to get against a managerless team.

“They could come out to make a point or they could go into their shells. We’ve got to be on top of our game, we’re under no illusions.

"But with a home fixture after the Rushden & Diamonds game we want to put on a performance.”
