A late equaliser denied West Herts all three points as they drew 2-2 at home to Oxted in the National Hockey League East Conference on Saturday.

In an evening opening period it was the Stags who took the lead, Dan Webster and Shea Sullivan combing to set up Joe Warren for the opener.

But Oxted levelled just before the break with a sucker-punch which saw the two sides go in tied.

Herts were on the front foot early in the second period, though, and their dominance paid off when good work from Will Grbic saw Adam Johnson jab home to put the Stags back in front.

But West Herts were ultimately made to pay for their profligacy as chances came and went without being taken.

And five minutes from time the visitors, almost inevitably, stole a share of the spoils with a second equaliser.

The ladies enjoyed a comprehensive 6-0 win over Harleston Magpies’ Seconds to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

Goalless at the break, Herts returned with a vengeance in the second period and rattled in six goals without reply.

The first arrived when Anna Coppel set up Rachel Findlay before turning provider for Anna McGlaughlin.

Jen Black and Sammy Clifft got in on the act before McGlaughlin and a Becky Perry penalty flick completed proceedings.

In the club’s youth section, the Under-16s got their season underway by beating Southgate 8-2 but there was no such joy for the Under-14s, beaten 5-1 at Eastcote.

Meanwhile, the girls’ Under-14s beat Eastcote 3-0.
