In a repeat of last season’s final holders Old Danes Athletic swept aside old rivals Hertfordshire Lions 9-2, whose nightmare season shows no signs of coming to an end.

Old Danes had a 3-1 lead before the break on Sunday, although Louis McNamara had cancelled out an early Athletic goal. George Benedetti headed Lions’ second of the game to reduce the arrears to a single goal but all hopes of a comeback were ended by a fourth from Old Danes. This signalled a collapse in Lions’ morale as they went on to concede a further five times.

Athletic had four players all scoring braces - Adam Cadmore, Chris White, Colin Spooner and Mark Shanahan - with Ross Bennett finding the net once.

Nascot Arms look likely to be joining Old Danes in the semi-finals after they swept Bedmond aside 8-0.

Joe Manfredini, Nathan Pooley, and Luke Pochetty all scored doubles with Matt Collins and Dean Collins netting one each.

Oxhey Hall Stars made it two wins out of two after a 5-2 victory over AFC Bovingdon.

Luke Furlong gave Bovingdon an early lead but Oxhey netted four times thanks to efforts from Darren Insley, an own goal, Callum Foley and Mark Insley.

Bovingdon were given hope when Oxhey Hall - playing with the bare eleven players - were reduced to ten men with more than an hour left to play, but it was Foley who scored his second to give his team a 5-1 lead before the break.

Bovingdon gave everything at the start of the second half but the ten men of Oxhey defended well, and all their opponents had to show for their efforts was the game’s second own goal when Oxhey keeper Jack MacDonald managed to throw the ball into his own net.

Prince George edged out Phoenix United 3-1.

After a goalless first half, Phoenix took the lead early in the second period thanks to a free-kick from James Brent which deceived everyone and flew into the net.

Prince George soon struck back though, scoring three times through Nelson DeSantos’ double and one from Tim Minton.

Batchworth and South Oxhey Labour Reserves jointly top the group after a 3-3 draw.

Joe Barton put South Oxhey ahead before Cameron Murray levelled and Chris Watson gave Batchworth the upper hand by the half-way point.

Gavin Bowen equalised for South Oxhey early in the second half and then their captain Dean Orsmond headed his side ahead for the second time in the game. But it was not enough to secure the win as Cameron Murray set up Watson to equalise with his second.

Meriden are in third place in the group after they swept Dome Bar aside 9-1.

Tom Dettmer was the star man for Meriden as he found the back of the net five times, with Aarron Crawford and Ben Dunton both netting twice. Ryan Hoare scored the sole Dome Bar goal.

AFC Green Machine head the group after a 2-0 win over Roundbush thanks to a goal in each half from Stephen Burke and the impressive Toby Spicer.

Inter moved into second place after they easily defeated Watford Labour Club 3-0 thanks to goals from Liam Watts, Chris Stead and John Ludastean.
