Premier Division

Bedmond produced what is undoubtedly the result of the Olympian League season so far with a 4-2 away win over leaders and defending champions Old Danes Athletic yesterday.

What made the outcome even more of a surprise is that just six weeks before Bedmond had suffered a 9-1 defeat at the hands of the same team in the group stages of the President’s Cup.

Indeed Bedmond learned from that previous defeat and played to a game plan. Rather than sit off Old Danes, they worked to deny their opponents time and space, preventing the champions from playing their normal passing game and harrying their back four.

Bedmond went ahead after 20 minutes when Tedi Prushi headed home a Jordan Davies cross. Davies was to prove the key man for the visitors, doubling his team’s lead ten minutes later and almost made it 3-0 just before the break when he was denied by the outside of the post.

That third goal was to be vital and it did arrive early in the second half when James Harvey headed home a Jamie Clark free-kick. But Davies did complete a brace, and score his team’s fourth of the game when he converted a penalty.

It got even worse for Old Danes when they had a player sent off, although they did rally and managed to score twice late on thanks to goals from James Burkes and Chris White.

AFC Bovingdon finally have a win in the league after they defeated fellow strugglers Hertfordshire Lions 7-5.

Lions took the lead before Bovingdon went ahead 3-1 but a goal just before the break narrowed the scores to a single goal.

The game was end-to-end after the break but Bovingdon scored another four times to run out winners.

Lions’ Carl Biggs netted a hat-trick but still ended up on the losing side, as did fellow scorers Dennis Fraser and Kieran Moss.

Tommy Gray scored three of Bovingdon’s goals, Oliver Hammond netted a brace and there were singles from Jack Fender and Alan Tikerpae.

Division One

Meriden went back to the summit of the division after a straightforward 5-0 home win over Inter.

They took the lead after Aarron Crawford’s solo run set up Ben Dunton for the first goal, which was soon followed by a second from Tom Dettmer.

The pattern of the game remained the same in the second half as Dettmer scored his second and was then denied a hat-trick when his shot was pushed onto the post only for George Ray to tap home.

The fifth and final goal came in the last minute when Crawford volleyed home.

Dome Bar are up into second place in the table following a 4-2 win over Batchworth.

Batchworth took a two-goal in the first half thanks to goals from Chris Watson and Chris Woods.

But Dome Bar fought back in the second period, helped by Daniel McAteer moving up front at the interval and that switch paid off as he scored a quick fire hat-trick. Mark Howell completed the win with a well-taken finish.
