Watford heavyweight Dave Abraham says his first professional knockout was no fluke after flooring Angel Angelov in the first round on Saturday night.

The 29-year-old (3-0) kept up his 100 per cent record by knocking down the Bulgarian after two minutes and 35 seconds at York Hall.

“I stuck to the game plan and it worked perfectly,” said Abraham. “We were working on that body shot on the Wednesday and it came off – it wasn’t a fluke. The chance came up and he didn’t want any more after that.”

“It was probably the first time I’ve worked on something like that, too,” added Abraham.

The former Finchley ABC fighter hopes to get out again in March. But in the meantime he will be putting in the hard yards at the gym alongside a new – yet to be confirmed – trainer.

“I’ve been doing without a trainer,” explained the former lifeguard. “Now I’m hopefully going to get a professional trainer and hopefully that will improve me.

“I’ve been advised to have someone before now but from my point of view I couldn’t afford it. I’ve been in the gym with trainers but didn’t have someone attached to me.

“I’ve been going around sparring so I’ve been getting the learning in but I’ve been selling myself short. I think it will help me my conditioning. You only get one career so I’ve got to do it right.”
