Premier Division

Hertfordshire Lions finally have their first league win of the season following a 10-3 victory over Phoenix United, who they have leapfrogged at the bottom of the table.

Dennis Fraser was the star man for Lions, scoring four times, and was supported by a brace from Jamie Balmer. Single strikes from Tom Weaver, Sam Crafts, Louis McNamara and substitute George Benedetti completed the scoring for the victors.

Phoenix’s Matt Byrne took his tally for the season to 13, one ahead of opponent Fraser. Lawrence Randolph and Adam Kenny scored the two other United goals.

With Old Danes Athletic not playing, Prince George missed the chance to cut the gap at the top of the table but they were held 2-2 by AFC Bovingdon who, like Herts Lions, seem to be turning around their season.

Luke Everett put Prince George ahead before Tommy Gray equalised from the penalty spot, but Tom Minton restored his side’s lead before half-time.

The second period was mostly one-way traffic towards the George goal, but they failed to hold on to take the three points after Gray levelled for a second time late on.

Birkdale Trophies Challenge Cup Round One, Second Leg

Oxhey Hall Stars beat Bedmond with a 2-1 win on the day, and 7-5 on aggregate.

Mark Insley scored a first-half double for Oxhey and although Bedmond pulled a goal after the break through debutant Clement Asante, it was not enough to prevent their opponents going through to face Nascot Arms in the quarter-final.

Division One

Meriden are now four points clear at the top of the division after a 5-2 away win over Batchworth.

Chris Watson’s double was not enough to prevent the Meriden win as Tom Dettmer scored a hat-trick and Aarron Crawford added the other two goals.

Chris Stead also netted a treble to help Inter to a 5-0 victory over Roundbush.

Josh Jones and John Ludastean were also on target.

Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round Three

Both of the Olympian League’s representatives were knocked out by Watford Sunday League opponents.

South Oxhey Labour Reserves lost 6-2 to Chorleywood Club despite a brace from Jordan Aston-Woods, whilst Watford Labour Club were given a football lesson by RD FC, who scored 11 times without reply.
