Kings Langley joint manager Paul Hughes admits Alex Campana is a huge loss for the club but believes new signing Lorenzo Ferrari can help fill the void.

Campana has been a key player in helping Kings to back-to-back promotions but the attacker opted to join Berkhamsted recently along with Tom Carter.

Ferrari has joined from Dunstable Town and the attacking midfielder marked his debut with a stunning solo goal in Kings' 2-0 win over Petersfield Town on Saturday.

Reflecting on Campana's departure, Hughes said: "Over the last three years Alex has made a massive contribution in the team winning consecutive promotions. His stats are phenomenal and he will be a huge loss.

"His family have just had a baby and with the lifestyle change he has opted to play for Berkhamsted.

"The Southern League requires a bit more commitment and with his professional job and family circumstances he might not be able to give as much time to us.

"There is no ill feeling and we are still friends with him. As much as it is a loss, we are grateful for the time he had with us."

Kings have already moved quickly to replace him and Ferrari made a major contribution for his new team.

Hughes said: "He played against us two or three years ago and whenever he has faced us he's always played well.

"Once we found out he was available we moved quickly and it's great to get him especially after losing some players."

The manager added: "He scored an absolutely fantastic solo goal and has great pace and technical ability. Once he gets himself 100 per cent fit he will be a great asset for us.

"Anyone with that pace and ability has massive potential and he will be very effective for us."

The debutant produced a superb 60-yard run and finish for the opening goal before Stevie Ward clinched the win which was their ninth from 14 games.

It means sixth-placed Kings could go top of Southern Central Division One if they win their two games in hand.

He said: "We are ecstatic with our position and the credit has to go to the players. We would like to stay in the play-offs but are under no illusion because it's so congested."

Their next task is a home game with Ware tomorrow and their opponents are just one point beneath them.

Hughes said: "Ware are another good team that are pushing for the play-offs. But if we can get a win then that will send out a message to the rest of the league that we are here to stay."
