Herts Sunday Senior Cup Quarter-Final

With postponements stretching beyond the shut down over the Christmas period, none of the Watford Sunday League sides drawn in the County Cup competitions coped well with the extended down time yesterday.

Premier Division side Oakview saw their dreams of winning the Senior Cup for a second time evaporate, going out at the quarter-final stage following a 1-0 defeat to Waltham and District outfit Flamstead End.

Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round Four

After weeks of frustrating postponements Chorleywood Club were knocked out of the Intermediate Cup in the fourth round, losing 4-2 at home to Hemel Hempstead side FC Intervino. Chris May and Ryan Mahon found the net for the home team.

Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round Five

There was also disappointment in the fifth round of the competition when Cassiobury Rangers travelled to Berkamsted side Apsley Athletic and were beaten 6-3.

WSFL Junior Cup Round Two

Fourth Division leaders Fox and Hounds showed their class against mid-table Third Division side The Swan and moved through to the next round with a 3-0 away win thanks to two goals from Josh Noyes and a strike from top scorer Bradley Thompson.

Premier Division

In the only match played in the top flight, Reed Rangers consolidated their position at the top of the table and improved their goal difference with a 4-0 victory away to Rickmansworth Rovers.

A strike from George Hobson added to the hat-trick from top striker Dom David which also moved him four clear at the top of the scoring charts.

Division One

AFC Oddfellows moved off the foot of the table with a 3-2 win away to mid-table side Croxley FC thanks to goals from David Wilson, Cleveland Brandy and Lamar St Cyr.

Patrick Armstrong and Carl Pettit replied for the home team.

In a keenly-fought contest, Gadeside Rangers retained second spot with a 2-1 home victory over fourth-placed South Oxhey Labour Club.

Tariq Khan and Jay Evans were on target for Gadeside with Andy Avis replying for the visitors.

Old Fullerians extended their lead at the top of the table with a 6-3 away triumph against mid-table West Watford.

The visitors won thanks to an own goal plus strikes from Phil Siedler, Sam Parker and Craig Totten while the brace from Steve Pich kept him on top of the scoring chart for the division.

Division Two

Bottom side Oxhey Rangers moved up three places and above their opponents thanks to a fine 5-2 victory away to Croxley FC Reserves.

Tom Walsh and Ryan Walsh both notched braces and a strike from Connor Murphy was sufficient for the three points despite goals from Croxley’s Jack Mason and Alex Tomlinson.

Langleybury Cricket Club moved back to top spot following a 3-2 home win against previous leaders Colne Valley.

Goals from the home side’s Mark Edgar and Colin Wilson were matched by strikes from Valley’s Gary Mumford and Mark Hansard but the contest was finally decided on an own goal.

In a battle at the foot of the table, Rifle Volunteer Reserves took the points with a 3-1 home success over Rickmansworth Athletic following a brace by Myles Hall and a strike by Harry Blagden.

Two sides pushing for promotion played out a 3-3 draw when West Herts entertained RD FC and took a share of the points thanks to a treble from Chris Colman.

RD had to rely on efforts from Hugh Trayte and Dan Parkes plus an own goal from the home side to secure their point.

Division Three

Two sides settling for their first draw of the season were promotion hopefuls Bell Rangers and Tudor Vets.

With Bell winning 1-0 at half-time following a strike by their leading scorer Harrison Harrison, the Vets had to fight back in the second half to take a point thanks to two goals from the reliable Gary Wicks. Rangers’ second goal was scored by Lee Everitt.

Second-placed Evergreen were away to lowly Railway Arms and ultimately ran out comfortable 5-0 victors. However, Arms proved stiff opposition but could not hold out in the second half despite being only one down at the break.

Kyle Rimmer and Aleks Jokiel both notched singles while Anthony Benvenga’s hat-trick moved him only one behind Tudor’s Wicks in the scoring charts.

A draw between two of the mid-table sides was of little use to either team in the promotion stakes when Sun Postal Sports and Green Dragon Reserves fought out a 4-4 stalemate.

Sam Hakner (2), Louis Hakner and Ben Williams netted for the home side but a fine hat-trick from Dragon’s Nathan Singh and a strike by Tommy Cox gave them a share of the points.

Division Four

Both Chris Tucker and Jack Honey found the net for Chess United in their home encounter against Bushey Rangers but the hosts lost 5-2 after goals from Harrison Bath, Ben Hooper, Lewis Yates, Robbie Tocher and Scott Cain kept the victors in touch with the leaders.

Ripstone FC showed no mercy to hosts Garston Rangers as they romped to a 17-1 victory.

With Felix Ansah scoring the home side’s consolation, Matt Elgey took the plaudits for Ripstone with seven goals followed by Robert Winsley (4), Matt Sharkey (2) and single strikes from Oliver Brill, Purav Patel, Jimmy Brall and Joe Hardy.

Third-placed The Compasses had to fight hard for the three points but finally ran out 4-1 victors at home against lowly AC Little Silhouette of Milan.

Top scorer Stuart Henderson found the net twice with the other goals coming from Harris Hasancevic and Ben Pinder although the visitors’ single strike, saving their blushes, also came courtesy of the home team.
