West Herts ladies Firsts hockey team had to settle for a share of the spoils as they drew 2-2 with Bedford Town in the East Premier Division on Saturday.

Goals from Anna McGlaughlin and Becky Perry gave Herts a two-goal lead but they could not contain a spirited Town fightback.

The result proved inconsequential as second-placed Bromley & Beckenham also failed to win, meaning the Stags remain on top of the table.

Despite taking the lead through Julie Waring’s fifth-minute strike, the ladies Seconds were on the receiving end of a 4-1 loss to St Albans Thirds.

West Herts ladies Thirds moved away from the Five Counties Premier Division relegation zone as they eased to a 3-1 win over Bedford Thirds thanks to a fine Haley McNeill hat-trick.

In the Men’s East Division One, West Herts Seconds were in dominant form as they smashed March Town 8-2.

Tommy Almond and Dan Scott scored twice and Ed Beak, Jeremy Lowen and Matt Sears got the other goals for Herts as they moved up to second place.

The Thirds were in equally impressive form as they hit five past Berkhamsted on their way to a 5-1 victory which was underpinned by a hat-trick from Morné Hoffman.

Elsewhere, a strong Potters Bar side consigned West Herts Fourths to a 4-2 defeat. The Stags went 3-0 down early on, but remain eight points clear at the top of the East Division Five South West despite the defeat.
