Berkhamsted's dreams of a trip to Wembley were ended on Saturday as Northern League side Morpeth Town knocked them out of the FA Vase 2-1.

Mick Vipond’s Comrades had reached the fifth round but came unstuck as the north east outfit triumphed at Broadwater.

Hosts Berko were ahead after 15 minutes. Alex Campana swung in a corner and Tom Carter headed firmly beyond Morpeth keeper Karl Dryden.

Despite coming under pressure from Morpeth, who knocked out last season’s winner North Shields in round four, Berko looked as though they would hold out until the break.

But just before half time the visitors drew level when Luke Carr converted a penalty.

Morpeth went in front for the first time when Michael Chilton tapped home from a corner after the break.

Berko’s task was only heightened after when Dan Edwards was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side almost snuck an equaliser, though, as Bradley O’Donovan fired just over and Jim Baldry hit the underside of the bar with a header.

Berkhamsted recovered on Tuesday to beat local rivals Leverstock Green 3-2 in the Premier Division.

Ollie Buckley put Levy in front early on but Jordon Frederick levelled against his former club.

O’Donovan scored either side of the break to give the hosts a 3-1 lead before Curtis Donaldson reduced the arrears shortly after but to no avail.

Berkhamsted host Cockfosters on Saturday while Leverstock Green travel to Hertford Town.

Sun Sports were held to a goalless draw by Colney Heath at Bellmountwood Avenue on Saturday.

Strong wind throughout didn't aid the quality of the affair and the tie ended in a stalemate. Paul Hobbs’ side had been due to travel to Holmer Green on Tuesday but the game was lost to the weather.

Next up for Sun is a visit from Tring Athletic on Saturday.

Oxhey Jets exited the Premier Division Cup on Saturday by going down 5-2 to Welwyn Garden City.

The Jets made the ideal start when they went in front after just three minutes thanks to an own goal.

But that was as good as it got and after Martin Netzer tied the game up at 2-2 the visitors ran in three further goals.

Jets are at Colney Heath on Saturday.

Tring Athletic crushed Holmer Green 5-1 on Saturday to climb up to 11th.

Chris Blunden (2), Kieron Turner (2) and David O’Connor all netted for Athletic who had been due to host Bushey Sports on Tuesday before the weather put paid to that fixture.
