Oxhey Jets’ relegation worries intensified as they went down 3-2 to a Harefield side who are one of just two teams beneath them in the South Midlands Premier Division table.

It was a hard luck story for Jets, who battled back from 2-0 down to level things up at 2-2 with goals from Warren Gladdy and debutant Chris Blunden.

But as they went in search of a late winner in Saturday’s contest, Oxhey’s hopes of securing even a single point were dashed when they conceded a freak winner, with the ball rebounding off the bar and hitting keeper Harry Smart before rolling into the back of the net to leave them deep in the relegation mire.

And they will go into their next match without skipper Beau Shulman, who was sent off for a second yellow card, as both sides finished the game a man short.

Meanwhile, Leverstock Green eased their relegation worries by picking up four points in a week.

They started with a 5-0 win over Biggleswade United, with a hat-trick from Lewis Cruwys and two from Alex McCarthy on Saturday, before banking another point with a 0-0 draw away at relegation-threatened Colney Heath in midweek.

Higher up the table, Tring Athletic maintained their good run of form by beating lowly Bedford.

The 2-0 win completed a good few days for the club, who have harvested nine points in seven days and seen their Reserves claim the Suburban League North title with a 2-0 win at Northwood.

The first team emulated the score of the Reserves with goals from Kieran Turner, which took his tally to 16 for the season, and Lee Stobbs, who has scored four in his last four outings for the club.

The result extended sixth-placed Athletic’s recent run to just one defeat from their last 11 games and sent Bedford to the bottom of the table.

Berkhamsted, in fifth, remain one point and one place ahead of Tring, despite Tuesday’s 4-0 reversal at the hands of Biggleswade United where just about everything that could go wrong did.

Berko never recovered from a poor start and ended up with nine men.

After making four changes to the starting 11, replacing three of the back four and giving a debut to Abass Jah, they had to reshuffle again when defenders Dan Weeks and Dale Sears went off injured in the first half.

Nick Elliott gave the visitors the lead with a shot that went through Carl Taker’s hands.

By the 17th minute Weeks got injured in a tackle, with his ankle swelling up and Sears pulled a hamstring.

The two defenders were replaced by Adiel Mannion and Josh Chamberlain but neither managed to finish the game as both were sent off.

Berko, who last Saturday drew 0-0 with Stotfold as they failed to find the net at home for the first time in the league this season, entertain Tring tomorrow.

Sun Sports remain in mid-table after banking one point from their two fixtures this week.

That came at London Tigers where two goals from Kyle Johnson earned them a 2-2 draw in a game which saw Sun boss Paul Hobbs come off the bench and play up front for the final quarter of the contest.

But Hobbs' side were unable to build on that point as they went down 4-1 to Holmer Green with new signing Louis Bircham grabbing Sun’s consolation.
