Oxhey Jets picked up a vital point in their battle against relegation when they drew 2-2 at Hadley on Wednesday – but it could have been so much better.

The fourth-from-bottom Jets were cruelly denied victory at the seventh-placed side as they were pegged back by a 95th-minute equaliser after Oxhey had come from behind to lead 2-1 thanks to Chris Blunden’s brace.

The point lifted them above Colney Heath though, and went some way to erasing the disappointment of Saturday’s 4-2 derby defeat against Sun Postal.

There, the Jets fumed about the goal that put Sun 3-1 ahead, claiming it went in through the side netting.

Jets had taken the lead inside the first 10 minutes through Scott Pugsley and they held the advantage until the 65th minute when their afternoon fell apart.

They conceded the equaliser to Dom Dickinson and then had substitute Ellis Brown sent off within minutes of coming on.

Jets then found themselves 3-1 down as Louis Bircham and Kyle Johnson struck.

Greg Usher pulled one back with five minutes left but, with 10 men and no option but to push forward, Sun won it with Johnson’s second.

Elsewhere in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, Leverstock Green lost a thriller 5-4 against Bedford, who jumped off the bottom.

It was agony for Green, who pulled it back to 3-3 with goals from Miley Cash, Curtis Donaldson and Ryan Laville after being 3-0 down.

Laville, with his second, then looked to have rescued a point with a stoppage-time equaliser after Bedford reclaimed the lead, only for Bedford to do it again even deeper into stoppage time.

Four days earlier, Leverstock lost 3-2 at Holmer Green despite goals from Jack Copson and Lewis Cruwys.

Berkhamsted were also among the goals, beating Tring Athletic 4-0 to stay fifth.

Josh Chamberlain’s brace and efforts from Frankie Jowle and an own goal inflicted a first defeat in seven on Tring.
