Garston Ladies progressed to the next round of the League Cup after a 3-2 win over Letchworth Garden City Eagles last weekend.

They had to dig in to overcome a physical Eagles outfit to set up a meeting with Hertford in the next round, as well as coping with the difficult playing conditions which were made extra tough by the tail end of Storm Katie.

Lucy Zecchin opened the scoring for Garston before Emma Trill marked her return from injury by adding the team’s second goal.

But, in a game littered with free-kicks, and where they had to defend stoutly against Letchworth’s long-ball tactics, Garston needed the addition of an own goal from unfortunate Letchworth defender Emily Jamieson to seal the win and book their place in the next round of the competition.

But while the scorers grabbed the headlines, the starring performances from defenders Caroline Tenebaum and Lauren Pinder were equally important along with the fine contribution from player of the match Gemma Curtis in midfield.

Meanwhile, the club has announced plans for a free inaugural session of football for women and girls of all ages with a disability or extra needs.

The session, with FA-qualified coaches, will take place on Tuesday between 10am and midday at Bushey Sports Club in Aldenham Road, Bushey.

It is a free event but attendees should bring their own suitable footwear, kit and a drink.
