Second-placed Fullerians host leaders Hammersmith and Fulham on Saturday in a potential London 2 North West title decider.

The Londoners were the last team to beat the Watford club in the league, back in December but, since then, Fullers have won eight matches in a row to sit just one point shy of their title rivals, over whom they also have a crucial game in hand.

Fullers head coach Rich Hoskins said: “It’s a huge weekend for us. It’s really important that we win this game.

“It’s not quite a title decider but, if we can beat them, it makes our job a lot easier.

“If we win, I think there would be a few beers drunk afterwards but no champagne, because the job would still not be done.”

After this weekend’s heavyweight clash, Fullerians will have three left to play – two away at Hampstead and lowly Enfield Ignatians, and one at home to second-from-bottom Staines on the final day of the season, while their opponents would have just two fixtures left.

With the luxury of that, Fullers will be going all-out for the win this weekend but won’t have to go gung-ho chasing a bonus point.

Hoskins said: “This week is about winning the game only. Hammersmith and Fulham are in front of us and hopefully they will be the next ones to get it from us.

“We’ve treated every game since January like a cup final and this is another cup final for us.

“The boys have put in a lot of hard work to get to this position.

“At the start of the season I didn’t know what to expect. Then, after a couple of months, I thought we could get into the top four.

“They’ve really surprised me and now, having exceeded expectations, we want to finish the job.”

Fullerians are top of the recent form table with five wins from their last five, while Hammersmith have had two draws in that stretch.

But Hoskins and his team will be taking nothing for granted.

He says Hammersmith and Fulham were good value for their win over his side in December and he has spent the build-up to this game studying the sobering DVD of that 22-10 defeat.

He said: “I’ve gone over it and over it and there are some things in there that I think we have ironed out. That defeat should focus the mind because they capitalised on our mistakes and beat us quite well.”

The Fullers’ head coach knows that with so much at stake, tomorrow’s meeting is a real pressure-cooker fixture but is confident his men can handle it after last year’s promotion-winning experience and believes the real pressure is on their divisional title rivals.

He said: “If we lose we have still got another chance but we are not thinking like that. We want to win this one.”

It’s an exciting time for the Coningesby Drive club all-round with another big top-of-the-table fixture going on this weekend for the second team.

They top the Merit Table ahead of Enfield Ignatians, whom they face tomorrow and, just like the first team, they also have the luxury of not having played as many games as their title rivals.
