Oxhey Jets eased their relegation fears with a 3-1 win at home over Broxbourne Borough to stretch their unbeaten run to three matches.

Their resurgence – which represents their longest unbeaten run of the season – has given them fresh hope of maintaining their Spartan South Midlands Premier Division status.

They are three points clear of fourth-from-bottom St Margaretsbury, who they drew 1-1 with on Saturday in a must-not-lose match.

And they followed that up with Tuesday’s much-needed 3-1 win over Broxbourne in midweek.

Manager Bob Wyatt made changes for the clash including bringing in John Smith for his debut in midfield and what a first appearance for the club he had.

He wasted no time in making a big impression by putting the Jets ahead, curling the ball up and over the keeper for a 15th-minute lead.

But that was cancelled out on the hour mark as Jets were punished for a lethargic start to the second half.

Wyatt was livid but he was smiling again on 77 minutes when Luke Lloyd bent the ball beyond the keeper to put Jets back in front and three minutes later Greg Usher made the points safe with Oxhey’s third.

Oxhey host Biggleswade United on Saturday.

Leverstock Green are also three points better off in their survival fight.

They made up for Saturday’s 2-0 home reversal at the hands of Welwyn Garden City, where they had Ryan Laville sent off, by bouncing back with a 1-0 win at Hadley during the week.

They took the lead after eight minutes through Alex McCarthy and then heroically defended their advantage for the remaining 82 minutes.

The win puts them one place and five points ahead of fifth-from-bottom Jets.

At the other end of the table, Berkhamsted picked up two wins in a week – including one over fourth-placed Hertford Town – to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive.

Their week began with a routine 2-0 win at second-from-bottom Harefield United on Saturday to complete a welcome league double over the Middlesex club.

Berko fielded the same 11 for only the first time since October and the trusted men got the job done with goals from Tom Carter and top scorer Alex Campana bringing home the points.

Carter was on target again in midweek as fifth-placed Berko beat the team just one place above them. Steve Hawes also netted in the win over Hertford as Berkhamsted made it three wins in a row.

Sun Sports were beaten 3-1 at home by Stotfold in their mid-table clash despite being given a dream start by Kyle Johnson.

He fired the hosts ahead inside the first minute but that was as good as it got for Sun as the visitors ran in three goals, including two in four second-half minutes.

Sun’s bad afternoon got even worse when keeper Ross Hampton was sent off.

Tring Athletic are seventh in the table after picking up four points this week.

They began with a maximum as they beat Wembley 2-1.

After starting sluggishly and finding themselves a goal behind on the half hour mark, Athletic raised their game to claim the win with goals from 19-year-old Jay Caines, who struck before half-time, and Lee Stobbs, who won it in the second half with his seventh goal of the campaign.

Chris Stapleton and Sam Joliffe, who saw his header from a corner come back off the crossbar, both went close to extending their side’s lead.

Stapleton wasn’t to be denied a goal though, but he had to wait until Tuesday to get it, scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Stotfold.
