Kings Langley have the Southern League Division One Central title in their own hands heading into Saturday's final day and joint manager Paul Hughes insists the players are embracing the challenge of winning a third successive promotion.

The trophy will be heading to Gaywood Park if Kings win at Petersfield Town with the leaders going into the last game with a two-point lead over Egham Town.

Hughes said: "We are embracing it and looking forward to the challenge. We are just excited and embracing being involved in the title race.

"It's obviously exciting. We didn't expect to be in this position but we're going to embrace it."

He added: "We go into the game with the frame of mind knowing we need to win and that's not a foregone conclusion.

"We need to enjoy the pressure and that's been our secret. The lads just love playing football and that helps counter-act the pressure.

"Winning breeds confidence and they are doing all the right things. If they do that then nine times out of ten we will win and that gives you belief which is one of our main strengths."

Kings are aiming to win promotion for the third consecutive year and Hughes believes the players' experience in recent seasons has helped them learn to handle the pressure.

He said: "They have played in pressure games before like against Bedford in the Spartan League. They have had other matches which have had pressure on them going for promotion and I just think they've grown as men and characters. It's serving them well this season."

Kings stayed top of the league after a 3-1 win at North Greenford United on Tuesday which relegated their opponents.

The visitors took the lead just before the break through Mitchell Weiss' low strike. But North Greenford levelled in the second half when Xavi Comas was harshly judged to have fouled Glen Yala and the hosts took advantage by scoring from the free-kick. Joint-manager Ritchie Hanlon was sent off for his reaction to the disputed decision.

But North Greenford conceded a penalty in the 78th minute when Ruddock Yala pushed Emmanuel Folarin. Danny Hutchins fired home the spot-kick and home goalkeeper Lewis Todd was sent off for dissent.

Kings clinched the points in injury time when Connor Toomey scored from a tight angle.

It was their second win of the week after goals from Steve Ward and David Hutton fired them to a 2-0 victory at home to Fleet Town last Saturday.

The final day of the season could see a three-way battle for the title if Royston Town win their game in hand tonight at Aylesbury. Victory would set up a promotion clash at home to Egham this weekend.

While Hughes' side may appear to have the easier fixture, he insists facing mid-table Petersfield will not be easy.

He said: "I think it's going to be a three horse race. Both games have pluses and minuses. Egham and Royston will be going at it tooth and nail.

"Our opponents Petersfield have no pressure on them whatsoever. They can go into the game relaxed and playing teams like that can be dangerous."

Kings' management team will not be distracted by the scoreline at Royston and are simply focused on achieving the victory which will see them crowned champions.

Hughes said: "We won't be keeping an eye on it but we're bound to have people coming up to us and telling us what's going on.

"We are just focused on winning the game because we are well aware Petersfield have one of the best home records. It's not going to be an easy game but we know how they play and we are going to come up with a plan to beat them."

Regardless of what happens this weekend, it has been another superb season for Kings with the team dramatically surpassing expectations.

"It's been a phenomenal season," Hughes said. "At the start of the season I wouldn't have believed it if you said where we'd be but the lads deserve it."
