Matt Wallace is once again in the mix at the top end of the leaderboard as he resumes his quest for an incredible fourth consecutive Alps Tour victory later today following the completion of a rain-delayed first round at the Vigevano Open.

The Moor Park golfer maintained his fine form to shoot a five-under-par 65 yesterday to share the club house lead overnight at Golf Vigevano, located to the south west of Milan, with Italy’s Andrea Bolognesi.

But with tee times delayed by more than five hours yesterday due to bad weather, causing half the field to complete their opening rounds this morning, the Pinner-based player currently finds himself in a tie for fifth, three shots behind first round leader Guillaume Watremez from Germany.

Victories at the Dreamland Pyramids Open in Cairo, the Tunisian Open and Austria’s Gosser Open a fortnight ago have given the 26-year-old, who has yet to finish outside the top three in his five Alps Tour events this year, a lead of more than 14,000 points in the Order of Merit. The top five at the end of the year will secure a place on the Challenge Tour.
