Radlett began their quest for an unprecedented third consecutive Watford Observer Fourteen14 Shield title with a comfortable 42-run victory over Aldenham School.

Randeep Sanghera’s unbeaten 59 helped the Cobden Hill side post 157-5 from their 14, eight-ball overs and in reply their opponents were dismissed for 115.

The victory sets up a quarter-final visit to Langleybury A, who convincingly got the better of Watford Grammar School for Boys by 62 runs in their second round tie.

Richard Soulsby’s 80 was central to Bury’s total of 158 before they restricted Watford Grammar to 96-9.

The winners of Frogmore and Rickmansworth School Staff await Leverstock Green A in the second last-eight clash in the bottom half of the draw after they defeated Watford Town A by 12 runs.

Sol Tomlinson’s 55 provided the foundation of Green setting a target of 148-5, with fellow opener Lewis Koch making 34 and 18 apiece from Nahim Iqbal and Sam Revell setting a difficult chase for Town.

Watford kept up with the asking rate for some time but the crucial timing of Darren James’ two wickets, plus three for Koch, ensured Green progressed.

Beaten finalists for the last two years Abbots Langley were already through to the quarter-finals and it is West Herts who will provide their opponents following an eight-wicket victory over Hemel Hempstead Town.

The Stags were in the ascendency from the outset as Daniel Woosley, 3-20, removed Hemel’s top three batsmen cheaply. Matthew Dale, 27, and Saleem Farooqi, 22, offered some resistance but Matthew Smith’s 4-17 ensured Hemel were unable to reach three figures as they closed on 99-9.

West Herts duly eased to the target with 13 balls to spare as 14-year-old opener Tommy Wheeler finished undefeated on 46 while Damon Kerr was 22 not out.

The outstanding first round tie has also been played in the past week and competition newcomers Northchurch made light work of reaching the last-16 as they thrashed Langleybury B by 114 runs.

The star of the show for Northchurch was opener Tom Garraway, who crashed six maximums and 12 fours en route to a blistering 50-ball 114 as his side reached 200-3.

In reply, Bury were rolled over for 86 as Oli Johnson claimed 4-22 and Callum Lindsay 2-20.

The defeat means Langleybury B will join the four other first round round losing sides – Aldenham, Bushey, Met Police Bushey and Watford Town B – in the Plate. The other three places in the competition will be taken by the beaten second round sides with the worst net runs rates.

Revised Quarter-Final draw (seeds in bold): Northchurch or Watford Haidery v Kings Langley or Chipperfield Clarendon; West Herts v Abbots Langley; Langleybury A v Radlett A; Leverstock Green v Frogmore or Rickmansworth School Staff.
