Moor Park Golf Club’s Matt Wallace and Callum Shinkwin both had difficult third rounds at the Nordea Masters in Sweden yesterday.

Playing his first event on the European Tour following his four successive Alps Tour victories, Wallace dropped back to two-under-par at the Stockholm tournament following a four-over-par third round 76, while his club-mate was on two-over-par overnight after firing a two-over 74.

Wallace was in a tie for eighth place at the end of Friday’s second round and remained within touching distance of the leaders after following up his opening round of 68 with a 70 at the par-72 Bro Hof Slott course.

But the tone for the 26-year-old’s third round was set with a bogey five on the par four second and he was to let two further shots slip on the front nine, at the par four fifth and eighth to drop back to three-under.

Two more shots went at the par four tenth and par three 11th, but the Pinner professional halted his slide with birdies on the par five 13th and 15th to move back to three-under. However, a sixth bogey of the round on the par three 16th left Wallace on two-under for the tournament and in a tie for 29th place at the end of the third round, 13 adrift of leader-by-five Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Club-mate Shinkwin had also been in early contention following his three-under-par first round of 69, but a three-over second round of 75 saw him make the cut with two shots to spare.

The 23-year-old Bushey professional moved back to minus figures for the tournament after be birdied the four eighth for the third successive day, but he dropped to back to even par after hitting a four on the par three 11th and then finished bogey, bogey with two more dropped shots on the par three 17th and par 18th.

And Shinkwin’s fortunes have not improved this morning, with dropped shots on the par five 1st and the par threes at four and seven to currently leave him on five-over with 11 holes of his tournament remaining.
