Callum Shinkwin was Moor Park’s leading competitor at the Nordea Masters after a difficult weekend continued for the Bushey professional and club-mate Matt Wallace.

The 23-year-old finished in a tie for 48th place in Stockholm after a three-over-par final round 75 saw him end the tournament on five-over-par, while Wallace was one shot further back in a share of 53rd after carding an 80 for his final 18 holes yesterday.

Wallace had started the day four shots ahead of Shinkwin after following up his encouraging first two rounds of 68 and 70 with a 76. And the downturn in scoring on the 26-year-old’s first event on the European Tour continued almost from the outset of his last 18 holes.

Dropped shots on the second, third, fifth, sixth and eighth holes saw the Pinner-based player go out in a five-over-par 41.

A run of four straight pars was ended by a double bogey seven on 13 and two more dropped shots followed on 14 and 15 before Wallace, who was invited to compete in Sweden after a history-making run of four successive wins on the Alps Tour, managed to stop the rot with a birdie on 17.

Shinkwin had travelled to Sweden looking to build on back-to-back top-20 finishes in his previous two Tour events, but rounds of 75 and 74 – after firing 69 over his first 18 holes – had seen him slip down the leaderboard.

Like his club-mate, Shinkwin also got off to a disappointing start with bogeys on the first, fourth, seventh and ninth holes, but a birdie on eight saw him go out in a three-over 39. However, the Bushey player’s final round steadied down to an extent on a level-par back nine as he picked up a shot on 13 and 18, having dropped one on 12 and 14.

The tournament was won by rising Sheffield-born star Matt Fitzpatrick, who finished three shots clear of Denmark’s Lasse Jensen on 16-under-par.
