Northwood Festival of Sport held a successful event last Sunday in where one of their participants proposed on the finish line.
The Hercules Events day, held at Hampermill Lake and Merchant Taylor’s School Grounds, saw Matthew Radmili compete the triathlon and as he crossed the finish line he went down on one knee and proposed to his fiancé.
Radmili had swam 1,900m in open water, cycled 100km and ran a half marathon before he popped the big question, however this was not the challenge he feared.
“I managed to complete my first half Ironman distance and to say it was a challenge is an understatement,” he said.
“It was one hell of an experience and I will take it as a learning curve.
“To all the supporters that stayed till the better end, you guys rock, such a lovely atmosphere to be around.”
Over the course of the day hundreds of competitors from beginners to the elites took on the Triathlons, Aquathlons, Duathlons, long distance swim races and run races.
Hundreds of spectators came along to watch the event and cheer on the 600 athletes that took part.
Hercules Events Director Gifty Enright said the festival exceeded all expectations.
He added: “People from Watford, Rickmansworth, Ruislip, Pinner and beyond came out in their hundreds to watch elite athletes, weekend warriors and to cheer on family and friends who were taking part in the many run, swim and cycle events.
“We were particularly delighted so many families joined their triathlete mum or dad at the Festival of Sport and took part in the fun run.”
The event organisers also praised Lieutenant Sarah Pryor and the South Oxhey Army Cadets for their marshalling support at the event.
