Matt Wallace’s remarkable run on the Alps Tour has continued after the Moor Park golfer won his fifth consecutive event.

The 26-year-old fired a second consecutive six-under-par round of 65 to finish on 17-under-par and win the Open Frassanelle title by four shots from France’s Victor Perez.

Having finished in a tie for third and second place in his first two Alps Tour events this season, Wallace’s incredible sequence began at the Dreamland Pyramids Open in February. Victories two, three and four followed at the Tunisian Golf Open, Gosser Open and Vigevano Open, but he has missed the last three tournaments after securing invitations to compete on the European Tour.

Having missed out at Open qualifying earlier this week, the Pinner-based professional returned to Italy and continued where he left off in his last Alps Tour event and shot an opening round of 66 to lead by one shot.

After firing a 65 yesterday to maintain his one-shot cushion, Wallace told the Alps Tour website: “Yes, [I’m] feeling really good about my game. I worked hard last week preparing for Open qualifying but it wasn’t mean to be on the links course.

“Over the weekend I have never hit so many balls in my life because after playing in Sweden and Austria it has given me the motivation to want to play on the European Tour every week.

“I’m looking forward to tomorrow to see if I can once again go wire to wire. It will be hard but I’m up for the challenge.

“It’s great to be back playing on the Alps Tour. The course, food, organisation and the Italian people are great. It makes it even more exciting.”

And Wallace did go wire to wire today, shooting the equal best score of the final round to win the €5,800 prize and extend his lead at the top of the Order of Merit to more than 20,000 points.

South Oxhey’s Luke Groves also competed at the Open Frassanelle but missed the cut after finishing the second round on two-over-par
